Red Squirrel Survival - RSPB ApathyPosted on Thursday Dec 10 13:00:00 GMT 2009 Christmas card has just arrived from one of those people to whom conservation means action. The photograph of a red squirrel is accompanied by a note.
The image was taken at Loch Garten in July where the correspondent has informed me that the RSPB warden said 'take as many photos as you can because the squirrels are disappearing and will be gone in 3 years! Dying of the Parapox virus.
Why is there absolutely no action to preserve or conserve these beautiful mammals. I can only surmise that Ospreys bring membership and income to the RSPB and Red Squirrels do not. What a dire state of affairs when a major conservation organization sits back and does nothing. |
